Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia cerebro-meningealis. Status lacunaris. Arteriosolerosis cerebri. Puterfactio.Autopsy examination of 74-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and frozen sections stained with Bielschowsky method.A margin of fresh hemorrhagic focus was found in the corpus callosum, fresh blood was seen in the meninges. Multiple perivascular lacunae were present in the basal ganglia, occurring mainly in the striatum. Features of edema were evident throughout the nervous system. The tissue structure was perivascularly relaxed, the interlobular glia was dilated. The vessels were atheromatically altered. Lymphocyte-like cell infiltrates were often seen around them. Cellular atrophy was observed in the central cortex. Cellular changes were difficult to evaluate due to putrefactive features. Slight atrophy of the granular layer was seen in the cerebellum.
