The national question in the Soviet Union was one of the most important subjects discussed among the Polish and Russian emigration. The attitude towards Promethean nations, defined by Russians as separatist, was central to the political concepts promoted by Polish and Russian émigré centres. In my article, I argue that the anti-imperialist stance dominant in Polish politics and the increasingly widespread support for Ukrainian independence after the war influenced the thinking of Russian democrats. Russians were forced to modify their political programmes, also due to international circumstances.
