Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia cerebelli recens. Focus vasogenes invereratus in reg temp.-pariet. Arteriosclerosis gradu magno. Autopsy examination of 71-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin and PAS method.Focal areas of fresh hemorrhagic lesions were visualized in the cerebellum. The vessels in this region showed obliteration of the wall structure. In the central part of the foci numerous granules of blood stain were present, in the borderline a large number of shrunken gemistiocytes and small perivascular necrosis covered with old, degenerating macrophages. Symptomatic lymphocytic infiltrates in the vicinity of some vessels were observed. In PAS staining was negative. Large atherosclerotic lesions of vitrification type in vessel walls were seen, especially in the borderline of white matter and meningeal. The white matter showed edematous loosening of the tissue, in the cortex neurons atrophy of medium degree was visible.
