The focus was covered with macrophages, with little vascular reaction, causing complete tissue disintegration in places, and a spongy state in places. The cortex showed extensive neuronal atrophy and obliterated layered pattern. The activation and proliferation of the glia was evident, especially in the vicinity of the focus.
