Palaeobotanical collections
The palaeobotanical collections at the W. Szafer Institute of Botany PAS (KRAM P) are the most diverse and at the same time the most numerous (about 100,000 catalogue units) collections of this type in Poland and one of the largest in Central Europe. Fossil materials are represented by: pre-Paleogene (older than 65 million years - MY), Paleogene-Neogene (65 MY – 2.6 MY) and Quaternary (younger than 2.6 MY) floras. Apart from these, especially noteworthy are: a reference collection of contemporary vascular plants, including carpological collection (approx. 27 thousand objects), palynological collection (approx. 20 thousand microscopic slides) and herbarium of leaves (approx. 5 thousand sheets).
