Abstract:

In thermophilic anaerobic bacterial cultures phosphogypsum is microbiologically transformedto H2S, S04^’, Ca^"^, phosphate and calcium carbonate. The maximal received process efficiencyamount to approximately 97%. The postcultivation sediments contain similar amounts of calcium, more phosphorus, more ferrum and magnesium, and smaller amounts of sulfur (mg/g ofdeposit) than phosphogypsum. The sediments may be applied as an agricultural fertilizer or asource of rare earths ores.
