Abstract:

The study aimed in establishing the effect of indomethacin, a well known inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, on the dynamics and nature of postischemic brainlesions in Mongolian gerbils in which cerebral ischemia was due to bilateral ligation of the common carotid arteries for a period of 30 min. In experimentalanimals carotid ligation was preceded by intraperitoneal injection of indomethacin,dissolved in Krebs-Ringer solution in a dose of 10 mg'l kg of bodyweight. Control animals were not pretreated with indomethacin. The brains of both group of animals were examined during 6 h of postischemic period in 1 hintervals.
