Abstract:

Contents of 30 stomachs of 3 swift species, and 97 stomachs of 9 swallow species have been analyzed. Most birds were shot during the breeding season in semi-arid grasslands of South Africa. Swifts fed mainly on termite alates and minute nemathoceran Diptera, while swallows preyed mainly upon minute Coleoptera. Both in the diet of swifts and swallows flying ants constituted an important food.
