Description:

Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Abstract:

An 54-year-old patient with suspected myopathy was examined. Biceps biopsy was performed. Light microscopy analysis revealed unchanged muscle fibres separated by a small amount of connective tissue and normal intramuscular vessels. Electronmicroscopy showed mitochondria of enlarged diameter. They were characterized by total or partial lack of mitochondrial cristae. An enzymatic defect of muscle fibers type I was suspected.
