Description:

Zespół fotografii zrobionych we wsiach w stanie Maharszta.

Object description:

Photo (scan from slide). Rural landscape inhabited by the Warli tribe. The villagers of Devgaon cultivate rice and raise animals. In the photo, a piece of wood with an image of a rider on a horse, there are stones on both sides of it. The stake stands under a palm tree at the edge of the field and represents the male deity of the guardian of the fields, belonging to the pantheon of tribal deities. They can be treated as a place marked by an unearthly force, a kind of primitive shrine. The village is situated in the monsoon zone, hence the predominance of rich vegetation. Photo taken in the dry season.
