This review presents chemical and biochemical properties oftrehalose. Moreover, the results of studies on biosynthesis and accumulation, as well as someaspects of thermotolerantion and osmoadaptation are discussed. The existingand potential applications in many fields, which may be medical or biological,are listed therein.
