Abstrakt:

Autopsy examination of 85-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson. In the left parietal lobe, there was a degenerative focus of malacia, mainly involving the cortex, in stage of advanced glial-mesodermal organization. The focus area was characterized by complete obliteration of the layered structure of the cortex. Nerve cells were replaced by progressively or regressively altered glia. The vasculature was stimulated, and there were often numerous macrophages laden with blood-derived pigment. The first layer of cortex was generally unchanged, containing numerous gemistiocytes and amyloid bodies. In some areas, the cortex was spongy in nature. Vacuolations and cellular disorders were found in the vicinity of the focus. Throughout the nervous system, the vessels were vitreously and fibrously altered, and single macrophages with hemosiderin were seen around some of them. Features of edema were observed.
