Seasonal weight changes in wapiti Cervus elaphus nelsoni (V. Bailey, 1935) were correlated with certain environmental parameters. Diet quality, a function of forage availability, appeared to be the dominant factor. The apparent duration og negative energy balance during winter was 131 days. Growth patterns differed among age/sex cohorts. The effect of insect harassment on summer growth was assessed.
