Photography (scan from a slide). In the foreground, the interior of the temple and the altar for the goddess Karna Mata in Deshnok. Before the altar sits a group of pilgrims who made sacrifices for the goddess and praying or talking and waiting for a sign that the for the goddess took the sacrifice. Just in front of them is sacrifice of food on which sits a few rats. Deshnok Temple is known that resides within it a large number of rats. In the local practice of pilgrims idea is that the sacrifices offered by pilgrims were eaten by rats. According to the beliefs it is a sign that the for the goddess took the sacrifice which is the food. Temple priests belong to the caste Charan, a group of closely related to rajputs. Deshnok is close to Bikaner, and the goddess Karna is tutelary deity of Rathor Rajputs clan seated in Bikaner
