It is noted that in adaptive control systems excited by a disturbance, the commonly used estimation algorithms based on current measurements of the plant input and output usually give unsatisfactory results. It is shown that additional measurements, especially of the additive disturbance radically improve the accuracy of the estimates. In the latter case the estimation of the parameters of the control channel and of the disturbance model may be performed separately with different values of a forgetting factor. The original proposal of system excitation by means of intentional, additive disturbance compensated by the control, measured and used in estimation, is given. In this case the exciting oscillations almost do not appear in the output. The described observations are confirmed by the results of simulations.
