Description:

The photo depicts a group of firemen wearing dress uniforms and headgear (helmets or hats) posing for the photo on the occasion of celebrating the St. Florian’ Day, the patron saint of firemen. The men are posing in several rows; in the front row there are three young boys in festive outfits holding a board saying: “Hail. The St. Florian’s Day on 4 May 1930 in Kokoszyce”. In the background there is a white brick building. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts a Voluntary Fire Brigade in Kokoszyce on 4 May 1930 celebrating St. Florian’s Day - the patron saint of firemen ; 4th May 1930, Kokoszyce near Rybnik ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
