Title: [A family portrait] [An iconographic document]

Date issued/created:

[1910]

Resource type:

Obraz

Description:

The photo depicts a group of people – two women, three men and a small girl – posing for the photo in a photographic studio. All are festively and elegantly dressed: the women are in bourgeois period outfits (blouses with band collars, long skirts with high waist and hats trimmed with flowers); the men are in frock coats; the girl is wearing a light-coloured dress. According to its owner, the photo depicts her father, who was a farmer by profession, when he was invited by his wife’s brother (that is by his brother-in-law) to the Battle of Grunwald celebrations in Kraków. On this occasion he took with him his wife’s sister and his eldest daughter. The inviting uncle was a citizen of Kraków and worked as a Treasury Inspection officer. The other uncle (standing behind the photo owner’s father in the second row) also came to Kraków for the celebrations. He worked as a tax collector in the east of the country in Kopyczyńce ; 1910, Cracow ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
